蚀 insects eat into a man’s things


蚀  =   in the seal script, it consists of three parts, 虫 worm or insect, 食 food utensil, and 人. The character in seal script depicts a worm eats into a man’s food.

In the clerical script,  is changed to  and the person  is removed.

In simplified character, is changed to 饣.

The original meaning of is extended to: corrode, erode, lose, eclipse
