jǐn guǎn méi rén zhī dào , zhè shì tā zuì hòu yī cì dào yín háng shàng bān le 。Though no one knew it, it was the last time he would be present at the bank.

上学 attend school; go to school

她十五岁时,不再学习钢琴,而是开始专心于上学
tā shí wǔ suì shí , bú zài xué xí gāng qín , ér shì kāi shǐ zhuān xīn yú shàng xué 。At the age of fifteen she gave up taking piano lessons to concentrate on her school work.

上菜 dish up, serve food

上菜时你一定要小心!shàng cài shí nǐ yí dìng yào xiǎo xīn! You must be careful when you serve the food.

她刚要上菜开饭,这时来了一些客人。
tā gāng yào shàng cài kāi fàn , zhè shí lái le yì xiē kè rén 。She was about to dish up when some guests came.

“上” is a much-used character in Chinese. You can see it can collocate with many characters. Just pay attention to its vulgar use: 上 + person = f**k this person. Another one is 上床:跟某人上床 = have sex with someone.
